Healthy Snacks
Here's a list of healthy snacks:
-Fruit is always a good idea, if I leave a bag of
small apples within reach I will find they have all disappeared by the end of the day. My kids love apples, bananas, grapes, berries, mango, and canned pears, peaches, pineapple, mandarin.
-Muffins are great and can be made in batches and frozen. Fruit muffins are great ideas because you can use applesauce for a lot of the fat, and you can omit most sugar because of the frozen or fresh fruit added will sweeten them. My girls call muffins cupcakes and don't seem to mind it when they eat muffins instead of real cupcakes.
-Popcorn is easy to make and fun for kids.
-Yogurt is always loved in my family.
-Cereal, served dry or with soy milk or with yogurt (Eating cereal with yogurt is a habit I picked up down in Ecuador, it's works better with the non-thick kind). My kids like puffs, cheerios, granola, and branflakes.
-English muffin or other small bread with local jam. My favorite is strawberry-vanilla jam which I pick up from the Moss Street Market here in Victoria, BC, in the warmer months.
Snacks that are also good for at home and on the road:
-Trail mix, nuts such as almonds, pecans, and walnuts
-Dried apricots, figs, prunes, cranberries, raisins
-Small juice boxes or cans of juice
-Small soy milk boxes
-Small cans of vegetable juice
-Jars of natural baby food
-Tofu jerky
-Bottled water
-Rice cakes
